Our History

Jerry Emery Sylvester Grooms (1955-2013)

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.  1 Timothy 4:4-5

For well over 40 years, Jerry Grooms had been a humble servant to Thomas County and all other surrounding counties, not just as a public servant as seen through his vast array of positions held in the community, but most notably along with his wife, Barbara Grooms, through Grooms Funeral Home, located at 631 Fletcher Street, Thomasville, Georgia.  Established by the late Mr. Sylvester Grooms, the staff and management of Grooms Funeral Home not only count it as a privilege, but an honor to serve the many families that we have served throughout the years. We have always considered each family as an extended part of our own families and have never looked at their services as a one-time event in the time of loss and sorrow, but also as a lifetime expression of appreciation given to those we serve in their times of joy.  It has been our motto since we were established in 1949 to provide “Courteous, Dependable and Efficient Service”.  Mr. Jerry and Barbara Grooms and staff have tried to not only live up to, but surpass each family’s expectations and their very own high standards given to the families that we serve. Although times have changed, the one thing that every family who walks into our doors can expect is the highest level of services rendered, at the most affordable prices, but the friendliest people, who are not just business men and women, but servants to your family in the times of need. Although Mr. Jerry Grooms isn’t physically active in the day to day operations, he is always the familiar face seen and exemplified through his wife, Barbara Grooms, and the staff who now provide the same quality service as if he is there daily.

Grooms Funeral Home is still a beacon of light in the community, gives a ray of hope in times of sorrow and provides the most courteous and efficient services. Grooms Funeral Home is built on a legacy and foundation of high moral standards, quality beyond comparison and affordability as to fit all of humanity, from the less fortunate, to those who are more financially secured. Mr. Grooms laid the foundation that the present staff, Barbara Grooms, Manager, Tawanda Thomas-Taylor, Licensed Funeral Director, Stedderick Thomas, Embalmer, Rev. Horace Hollaway, III, Chaplain and attendants, Charles McCloud, James Bushware, and Ronald Hayward, now continue to build on.  It is our greatest hope that in your time of need that you will consider using our services, where it is better to know us and need us than to need us and not know us.
